How to Save Yourself through the Power of Knowledge of Self (K.O.S.)

Hetepu (Peace & Blessings) Family.

I just finished a disturbing conversation with someone whom I thought was aware. As I listened to this individual “talk-the-talk,” you know that “Hotep. I am Woke. We got to do this for babies. I am not African American I am Afrakan, etc.”   I began to see through this individual’s armor.  Spirit began revealing to me that this individual ain’t about nothing but is caught up in the fad of being conscious. So, I let this individual just babble because they were somewhat entertaining but when the moment came, I asked, “So you work with your ancestors?”

Their response was, “Oh yeah! The ancestors are with me. They are going to help us win against the MAN.”

“No. Do you have an ancestor shrine and work with your ancestors?” I asked.

“Nah Brother, that’s some ole primitive Afrikan stuff. I don’t mess with that because it doesn’t work. It is all superstitious anyway.”

Another example of someone playing conscious or what I call conplay. You know it is like cosplay but they are playing to be conscious.

From the film I’m Going to Get You Sucka!

I don’t know where or how the idea came about that consciousness or “woke” (as people like to call it) refers to how many dashikis you adorn, how natural your hair is, your diet, etc.  Or, for that matter, how many books you have read. I mean if you have read a lot of books, all this means is that and I quote, “YOU READ A LOT OF BOOKS.”

I used to be the same way.  I used to step into a cipher and spit all of this information about all the books I had read but after the cipher ended. I was still financially broke. At the time I was still lonely. I was not successful because I was torn between pursuing a college degree/career/working for the man and self-employment as a starving artist selling artwork, tee-shirts and incense.  But, I claimed to be “conscious” and considered others who had stopped eating pork or became a vegetarian/vegan and knew about history “conscious” as well. But, I was not conscious and these individuals I rolled with were not conscious either. We were all informed meaning we read a lot of books and therefore, had a lot of information.

We are told that conscious means to be “aware” or “awake” from a metaphorical sleep. This means that if someone is sleep they are walking around in a daze as if they are on autopilot. For instance, my morning routine is to wake up, go to the restroom, check the house, make breakfast, and get things ready for my wife to help my wife so that when she awakes she can focus only on the baby. I wake up every morning and follow this same routine because this is my program and it works for me. I mean even when I do not have to go to work, I get up around the same time and do this same routine. So, technically you can say that my morning routine is on autopilot. If something happens that throws me off of my program like I wake up late or something, then my morning routine will be out of whack and I will seek to get back on my routine. This is what it means to be sleep. Therefore, consciousness means that you are aware of the routine you are following.

People who smoke cigarettes are under the influence of a subconscious behavior. When they feel stressed, are in a social setting, etc. they go on autopilot and reach for a cigarette despite them knowing the ill effects of this habit.  I don’t smoke cigarettes because I am conscious or “aware” of the effect it has upon by physical body, so I have chosen not to engage in this subconscious behavior. You see, most people who are sleep just do things out of habit based upon their emotions. Conscious means that you are able to step away from a situation and make a rational decision despite how you feel subconsciously. This is the reason people who smoke cigarettes out of habit are said to be “sleep” while those who do not are “conscious.”

In short, Consciousness is not about making you feel good.  Being informed is.

So, there are some things that we are all conscious about and some things we are not. When you are “conscious”, the metaphorical light comes on and it does not go out. It stays with you because this is the Left Eye of Ra.

The Left Eye of Ra (also called the Lunar Eye corresponds to intuition and spiritual sight, hence insight.)

The Left Eye of Ra (also called the Lunar Eye corresponds to intuition and spiritual sight, hence insight.)

A lot of times, you cannot even explain in words the Aha or Eureka moment because it is ethereal and corresponds to the Light of Amun Ra.

A lot of people are confusing informed with consciousness. Informed refers to the Light of Ra or the left Eye of Ra. Consciousness is the Light of Amun Ra or the Right Eye of Ra.

The Right Eye of Ra (Also known as the Solar Eye corresponds to literal and physical sight.)

The Right Eye of Ra (Also known as the Solar Eye corresponds to literal and physical sight.)

Understand the difference?

Another difference between the Light of Ra (Right Eye of Ra or being informed) and the Light of Amun Ra (Left Eye of Ra or being Conscious) is that the former is aggressive, left-brained, argumentative, competitive, etc. and the latter is passive, right-brained, cooperative, etc. We see this difference played out in western society all the time. For instance, there are a lot of people who are informed about Christianity, Judaism and Islam. You never hear a lot of Jews, Christians or Muslims say, “I know God” because their religion is not based upon knowing and realization. It is based upon beliefs, which can change every time there is new experience. Most people who are informed about these religions because they see the inaccuracies within the stories.  They have been taught as children to interpret the myths of their religion literally but when they came of age they began asking, “How did Adam and Eve populate the entire planet?” “How did Noah put all of the animals in the world on one boat?”

They are informed about these religions but they are not conscious, which is the reason they leave the temple, the church or the mosque and get into another dogmatic religion from Africa, China or India.  They follow these traditions out of fear that if they break some taboo, that some deity, ancestors or karma is going to punish them. If they were Conscious they would understand that religion is a tool for social control, which is the reason we were all taught to interpret the myths literally so that we develop ethics and morals.  If they were Conscious they would also understand that the whole idea of praying to something outside of you to empower or save you is that basis of all religious mindset. The whole idea that God or some god, spirit or karma is going to get you is all part of social control.  I cannot tell you how many people I have met tell me that they are going to do or not do something because of karma…But You’re a God/Goddess living in Fear? (By the way, the reason Europeans and Arabs could easily come into Africa and indoctrinate us with their religion was because our mind was primed for religious instructions. The Europeans and Arabs simply took the name of our god and demonized it by claiming that it was evil to go within and professing that our salvation came from praying to their deity. That’s the difference between being Conscious and being Informed.)

This same mindset can be found when it comes to diet and health.  Most people are informed about dietary ills but they are not Conscious, which is the reason they have turned their dietary lifestyle into a religion by only dealing with people who eat the same way they consume food. If an individual comes into these so-called “health conscious” people sphere with some type of infirmity these so-called “health conscious” people look down on them. Yes, suddenly “health conscious” has become a religion and you hear these people all the time preaching against soul food, but whenever they can’t get to their tofu or some other soybean product, they will reach for potato chips and chocolate. Yet, they are “health conscious.” No. They are informed.

I know about all of this because I did it. I used to be informed about my history, my religion, my health, etc., which led me (like many people today) to mimicking others – particularly my perception of what or how I thought the Kemetic people lived. When I became conscious about certain subjects I stopped reading so many books and began to intuit (channel) certain knowledge. When I say an ancestor told me something, I know that I did not get the information based upon my personal experience, which meant it had to have come them because their blood and consciousness survives through me.

Some people asked me where do I get my information from so, that they can read and study the same thing. I list all the books that I have read and inspired me but tell them a lot of what I know is because my spirits told me so. Some of these people interpret my response as me not wanting to reveal my sources but others regard it is primitive foolishness because they just don’t want to do the work. They are quite happy sitting on their backsides talking about the culture, the ancestors, discussing metaphysics and arguing with some other individual who claims to be conscious. When technically all they are doing is arguing over a difference of opinion based upon the information they read.

When an individual has true knowledge of self or is conscious they come together with like minds because they see the similarities in various systems. For instance, I do not have to practice Taoism to get along with someone who professes they are Taoist. In facts, I can read certain parts of the bible and use it for liberation because I am not swayed by the beliefs.

Being Informed only boosts the ego who is symbolized as Set, while being Conscious boosts your Higher Self.

In other words, when you are conscious you do not come together on superficialities such as sharing the same beliefs and ideas. This is the same thing that Jews, Christians and Muslims do among themselves and each other. They argue about how the other’s interpretation of their religious myth is interpreted incorrectly.  This is the same thing that so-called people do.  In fact, the reason these “conscious people” on the Internet are always beefing with each other is because they all have difference in opinions. They do not understand we are all dynamic individuals and we are supposed to have different opinions because we each have different experiences and come from different backgrounds. We had to have different experiences to accomplish our destinies. For instance, I had to be born into a Christian household where my father is a preacher, so that I could understand how religion hoodwinked us. That’s my maa (way) and everything I deal with has helped me to get on this road. So, I would not dare devalue someone who didn’t have the same upbringing and therefore do not have the same perspective. That’s not their maa. Their maa is different from mine but if they are conscious we should be able to respect one another.

For instance, when I hear people say that the Kemetic people were black and brown Africans because they named themselves after the black fertile soil.  I understand that this individual is just scratching the surface of spirituality. This is something they read or heard making them informed but it is not what they know. I know that the Kemeitc people named themselves after the mysterious blackness of the universe. That is not something I read. I mysteriously came into that knowing. I have experimented and test it out by slowly delving into the darkness where our Ancestors and Spirits reside. When I listen to other people who have had similar experiences, even though they may not have had the same experience or explain their experience from a different perspective. I understand them because it is not their beliefs, ideas, opinions or information that unites us but their knowledge of self. Basically, their interpretation is how their mind works.

Knowledge of Self means knowing your Self or how your minds work, that is the Higher, Middle and lower mind. This is what the Kemetic people excelled in and the reason they accomplished so much is because they understood the power of the mind. In fact, their technology is what we call spirituality, which is what people call today magic. There are plenty of systems that exist but you must figure out which system works best for you and use it to make your own. So, to be conscious means to know how to influence your world spiritually.

That being said, leave these people alone who want to sit around arguing about how conscious they are. They are only stroking their ego and the ego remember is our Set. Instead of following these people, learn how to go within and master your mind. That’s why you are here.

Justice Comes From JUST-US

19 05 2018

Hetepu (Peace & Blessings) Family.

I have been away for a minute trying to finish a couple of projects that I had going on.  I wanted to post earlier when there were some celebrities making some controversial statements but I decided to hold my ground and just observe how things played out. And, a good thing I did because the more I sat back and just watched events unfold. The more I began to realize something, which is that this world is really an illusion and it finally hit me when I watched the Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino’s “This is America.”

Ok. This is not the first time I have mentioned this. The first few times I wrote about this, I really thought I knew it was an illusion was.  In fact, when my Ancestors gave me the Maa Aankh and told me “Rau Khu! TASETT is an illusion like living in a desert.” I really thought I understood what they were saying but I didn’t get it until I saw a glitch in the mirage.

When I looked at the flaw I started to notice all of the reports of police brutality that have been surfacing on the Internet. Now, “they” would like you to believe that police brutality just started a few years ago, but we know that police brutality has been a problem for at least a century. When the Rodney King beating was caught on video, that should have made people throughout the world aware that the U.S. is a very violent country, but that event was treated like an isolated incident. Then, a few years ago people started taking note again of all of the people abused and dying due to police brutality. The interesting thing is that just like during the Rodney King incident where the police were acquitted for victimizing us, the police are being acquitted in the same manner.  They are being let go from their jobs and going somewhere else where they can start the process all over again.

In fact, the only difference between the police brutality then and the crimes being reported now is that more of it is being caught on camera but, still there is no change. No justice and this is what made me ask. “Why are they constantly reporting police brutality if they are not going to give the people justice?”

The answer that came back to me is that it is to motivate us into a particular direction. What is that direction you ask? It is total obedience. I mean every week they are reporting about someone else who is being victimized as if they are trying to desensitize the rest of the world to our cause. If things continue to go the way they will portray us as Hitler did the Jews, as the patsy for the downfall of humanity.

They know how to rouse us. In the Story of Osar, Set knew Osar’s exact measurements for him to fit inside the chest, which became his coffin.  They know that if they do something unjust, that folks are going to get angry and take to the streets in marching. If they put someone up to say something controversial. Folks are going to take to social media and move to do x, y or z. When they want a certain person in office they do a poll to see who can get the most thumbs up or thumbs down and they back that horse. They know that if they do not put certain people in movies that people are not going to stop going to the movies to escape.  They only practice inclusiveness so that you don’t realize and say, “I am SLAVE.”

Slavery takes many forms Family. Slavery is not just physical. There is emotional, mental and spiritual slavery.  There is financial slavery, religious slavery, relationship slavery, etc.  The reason we keep getting the same raw deal is because many of us have not woke up and realized we are still slaves. Understand. You can treat a slave any way you like because what are they going to do when the only thing the slave knows is what the slave master taught it.

Think about it. The only reason people march, protest and boycott is because the slave master taught their slaves not to complain in a violent manner. The first person to protest nonviolently was the racist Gandhi and they taught everyone to follow suit because the external “God” is on the side of the righteous and “God” will fight your battles. So, a guy comes into our church and shoots men, women and children and people don’t get angry. No, they protest peacefully? They say, “Oh, I forgive you and I will pray for you.”I mean seriously, if you have protest to get someone to stop harming you apparently they never saw your life is being relevant in the first place. This is like a fly protesting against a flyswatter.

Do you not see that that response is not natural? Everything in this universe has the right to exist and defend itself but we are the only ones who do not want to talk about slavery and let bygones-be-bygones. We are the only ones who want to make jokes about this horrific time period and encourage others to make dumb comments as well. We are the only ones who do not want to remember our glorious past but instead wait for the oppressor to teach us. If they announced on the news that the Ancient Egyptians were black, then we would celebrate and start believing but it ain’t going to happen because they don’t want to free us from the slavery we are in.

Think about it.  Would Kayne West had made that remark about the Jewish Holocaust? How come he didn’t ask, “Jewish people gave up their guns so that Hitler could kill them, that sounds like a choice?”

Because the Jewish people would have been on his ass! The Jewish people keep writing books, movies and telling the stories of survivors to make sure that event will never repeat itself. They have built an entire way of life celebrating their culture and reminding one another so that history does not repeat itself and they will never be vulnerable again.

Do you see where I am going with this? We are all living in an illusion. Think about this. When it comes to history why do we  celebrate the stories of our people who made our oppressors’ life better. Yes, George Washington Carver, Charles Drew, Garret Morgan, Phyllis Wheatley, Madam Walker, and many others have done great things, but none of the money they made improved our condition. I mean if we had had one of George Washington Carver’s peanut patents, we would have been close to set but he didn’t leave any of that for us.  In fact, most of our millionaires sell their companies to their competitors and don’t build up our community. Yet we celebrate and honor these individuals but why when all they have done is proven that we can improve the life of our oppressor but not our own. Yes, Black History as we know it is BS because it is not empowering us. Who gives a damn about a traffic light that is being used all over the world by people who don’t give a damn about the people who made it. I mean unless they put Garret Morgan’s name on the GREEN light so before people go they are reminded “BLACK FOLKS made your driving experience SAFE.” This is a tidbit of information that is hurting our youth, which is the reason they don’t take to it. Telling people about the traffic light is similar to telling people the Ancient Egyptians were black. Great news but it does not improve our situation because it is only used to recite a list of names and dates.

Do you see the illusion?  They got us focusing on BS and then we are wondering why are condition has not changed.

Do you understand why they will never get rid of christopher columbus Day even though all the records indicate that he has not discovered a damn thing? Do you know why they celebrate washington, jefferson and all of the lives of these people? It is because these people pushed their oppressive agenda and furthered their peoples’ cause.  They are honored and got a day, street, building, etc. named after them because they helped to build this world we are in or better yet, their matrix (system). We are fighting to be a part of world that was not created for us. This is why we will never receive any justice in their system. We will never receive any JUSTICE in their system because it is JUST US!

We were brought here to be the batteries of their system.  To make products, inventions, etc. for them freely. To fuel their economy, industry and every other system they have created. Does it not make sense why every invention we have made, we may have been given recognition but the profits and everything from it were stolen?  Every time we tried to come up they crushed us. I mean if the kkk hates us so much then why don’t they just leave us alone? It is because they were created to incite fear so that we remember that we are nothing more than slaves.

Our problem is that we refuse to acknowledge like the Jewish people realized after they got tired that the Power of the Divine is within and if we don’t like something we can change it, because change starts first in the mind.

In the Story of Osar, Hru (Horus) fought Set but the battles either ended in a stalemate or with Set being the victor. It wasn’t until Hru retreated and fled to get help from Djahuti, who repaired Hru’s gouged eye, that it was revealed to the avenging prince. The reason Hru could not defeat Set was because he was fighting his enemy materialistically. In other words, Hru was under the impression that since Set had weapons, so he needed weapons. Since Set had agents, well Hru I imagined wanted agents. Basically, everything Set did Hru would try to best him to defeat him.

Djahuti told him which can be paraphrased by Albert Einstein, “You can’t solve problems using the same thinking that created them.”

We all know that this society is very wicked so why do we put faith in their god, legal system, politics, economy, etc.? It is because that is how ‘they’ taught us.

Read the history Family.

Praying to some external god outside of us has not solved anything. We have tried all of these monotheistic religions and where have they gotten us?  Marching ain’t solved nothing. We know this because we are living in the post-Civil Rights era now. Voting has not solved anything because we saw Obama, Clinton and all of these politicians whom we put in office turn their back on us.  Money has not solved anything because we had our own cities. We had several Black Wall Streets and they bombed it.  Having weapons has not solved anything because they got more than us and even when we have licenses, they still twist it in their favor. By the way, where was the NRA in the Philando Castille case?

I am trying to get you to see Family that this is all a BS illusion to make us believe that we are not their slaves.  We have done all of this and even tried their democracy, communism, socialism, etc. and we still ain’t gotten anywhere because we are using the same thinking to solve the problem that created the problem. We are reacting in a reactionary world because that is what ‘they’ taught us to do.

So, all of this will come to an end when we say, “Enough is enough!”

There is only one way to break out of this system and that is through magick, which is the very thing that they discourage us from using. If there is anything we should have learned from the Nat Turner Revolt is that their religion does not work for us, no matter how much we tweak it, because it was created for social control or social slavery.

What is magick?

Simply put, it is the ability to manifest your will. When you do magick you are basically handing an idea or belief of what you want to the most powerful part of your being, your Higher Self or Superconscious part (BA) of your being, symbolized as Osar, which was given us to by our Ancestors. This is the reason Osar is the Lord of the Underworld or Ancestral Realm. In other words, you are handing your intention to the Black side of your mind and Universe.

This is alluded to in the Story of Osar when Djahuti calls up Osar to speak from beyond the grave. Hru defeated Set because his Ancestor (Osar) interceded on his behalf. In other words, Djahuti gave the issue to the Black part of the mind, which is symbolized on the Maa Aankh as KAMTA (the Black Lands).

Yes, our Kemetic ancestors have been telling us this all the time but there were agents who kept distracting us from the deeper truth.  By getting us to focus on superficialities, by saying Kemet refers to the black soil and is a reference to the skin color of the people. The Kemetic people didn’t think so lowly about themselves. They were higher thinkers and understood that the Black and Darkness of Universe was their birthplace.  They were telling us from the start, “We are GODS/GODDESSES.”

What this means is that if you have a problem and you walk down the street and pick up a pebble. If you name the pebble after your problem and throw it behind your shoulder in full confidence that a solution will come. A solution will appear because you gave it to the BLACK (KAMTA).  If you carve on a candle what you want, burn it and leave to extinguish itself, you are sending the request to the blackness of your mind/universe. When you offer candles and other offerings to your ancestors, you are calling upon the powers within the BLACK to birth a solution.

Everything comes from the Black. Seeds gestate out of the black and become plants. Embryos come out of the dark and born in the world of Light, and so on.  Everything comes from the Black because out of nothing (Nyun) comes something.  Our Kemetic ancestors understood this and this is why their creation stories begin by saying Nebertchar – The Lord of Everything (Supreme Being) first came into existence and established Maa (Law) out of nothing.

It should become clear that the reason they say don’t in our spiritual systems don’t look back after you give an offering at the crossroad, the river, the ocean, the forest, etc. is because once you do.  You bring your intention back out of the BLACK and into our awareness where our subconscious will try to solve the problem.  The subconscious part of our being also called our lower self is symbolized by Set, who is the ruler of this BS illusion we are living in. That’s why we can’t solve any problems by just thinking, talking and marching. They created this society this way so that we could not go to the BLACK, which means when we keep focusing on our problems by complaining and discussing it. The problem never gets a chance to be worked on in the BLACK or said another way. The problem is not worked on by our Ancestors, Spirits, Gods, etc.

Just in case you are wondering, Yes the enemy knows that our magick works, which is the reason they brought us here and discouraged us from using.  I mentioned before, in the “How to Defeat the enemy/hidden hand” that we have been here for a very long time. We have incarnated back to this planet numerous times and the reason we are proficient in magick is because each time we came back we brought that experience with us. The enemy know this and that’s why they keep telling us our history began as slaves and not in Kush and Kemet, they don’t want us to remember.  They enslaved us because they did not want to go through all the steps to develop as we and other indigenous people had done.

Do you see the Story of Osar is playing out now? Yes, the younger murdered their elder brother because they are cheaters trying to capitalize off of our ancestral power (Osar).  They want the power but none of the responsibility that comes along with it. They want to get it the easy way.  They want to strip everything of its natural ability and make their own processed way the same way cocaine is processed. (Sidebar: cocaine in its natural and unprocessed state is safe, non-habit forming and safe to ingest, but when it is processed it becomes a drug like sugar, white flour, etc.that causes various health ills.) In fact, everything that they touch, they process because their nature is to destroy and deconstruct it.

This is why I say, the hell with saving their world. Been there. Done that and every time we save them, they give us the boot as soon as they get what they want. Not this time.

HRU (Heru, Horus)

Y’all, as descendants of Hru it is time to build our reality. You want folks to stop killing in your community. Imagine your community already being safe. Don’t focus on how it is going to happen. That’s not your job GODMAN and GODWOMAN. Let the Spirits, your Osar do the work.

I always go back to when I had to heal my body to make myself walk. I did not focus on what the doctors said or anything else. I visualized dancing and running as if I did not even become ill.  Whenever, a discouraging thought came to mind, I repeated “Thank you for perfect health” understanding that this was part of the process. I kept that focus and did not think about how it was going to happen. Then, the next thing you know, I had to go down stairs to prevent the basement from flooding and I ran up and down stairs at least four times. It was on the fourth run, that it dawned on me that my magic worked and my legs were healed.

I brought that into my present reality. I planted the seed in the DARK and it grew. That was my miracle that made me realize that I am GOD and I know because of that experience that the CREATOR allows us to experience one miracle so that we understand that magick is possible.

I know we can change this reality and we better because time is running out. These fools are close to perfecting their Eyes Wide Shut rituals and are preparing to go to war with the REAL GODZ and GODDESSEZ of the planet, US.

So, if you are claiming to be down with this then you need to get into your magick. Djahuti told us, we can’t fight Set the way he fights us. We got to use our magick because it is our only recourse.

How to Regularly Work With Your Ancestors & Spirit Guides (Aakhu)?

5 04 2018

Hetepu (Peace & Blessings) Family.

You know what?  When you embark upon a spiritual path sometimes you need a reminder of why you perform certain practices because we are living in peril times that encourage us to give into our ego, our lower self, or Set. Ancestor veneration reminds us that we stand on the shoulders of those who came before us and that whenever we cannot find a solution to our problem from the available physical resources.  We need to go within.

So, I was talking to one of my former math students who is from Vietnam about some of the food traditions they have in their country. They were telling me how they immigrated to the United States with their parents when they were three years old and, how they made it a custom to visit their home country every two years. As we talked, they told me how their food was so different from the American diet because they prepare fresh vegetables every day to eat alongside their meats, rice and/or noodles. As they were telling me this, it seemed to have slipped but they mentioned how they offer fruit and incense to their ancestors.

Not skipping a beat to make them feel comfortable talking to me about this spiritual practice, I remarked, “Yes, I offer a candle, incense and food to my ancestors as well.”

Feeling somewhat at ease, they continued talking and began asking them more questions about how they honor their ancestors like how many days during the week do they perform this rite and what types of food are offered.  They told me that usually they simply offer a mango, which is different from the oranges that are offered by many Chinese practitioners.

Then, I asked “Do you burn money for your ancestors?” To which they replied they do but usually on special occasions.

For the most part, all they could tell me was that everything that they are doing usually tradition.  We talked for a little bit more and then parted ways because we both had separate engagements, but it got me thinking…

I don’t recall seeing a lot of Asian people living in poverty. Now, I am not saying that there are not any financially poor Asians living in the United States. I am just saying that I have not seen many and maybe it is because they regularly honor their ancestors.

Maa Aankh with Utchat

The reason my former student and I could have such a pleasant conversation about the ancestors was because as far as I could tell. The Asian understanding of the afterlife is similar to the thoughts of the Maa Aankh, which is that the dead (in KAMTA) and the living (TASETT) are dependent upon one another. The relationship between the living and dead is symbolized in the Story of Osar as Hru need for Osar in order to defeat Set.  Coincidentally, this is the basis of Kemetic Spirituality

From what I could assess from my student is that by specifically calling their ancestor by name and stating that they are giving them an offering of food, drink, money, gifts, etc., so that they can use in their realm. The hope (belief) was that the ancestor would give them the things they need in order to live in the physical world.

Remember, there is no right or wrong way to make an offering to your aakhu (ancestors) but when you make an offering to your aakhu. You are in essence giving them energy, which is basically taking something from the physical world and giving it to the spiritual world. For instance, if you wanted to offer a $5 bill, then once you put that money on the altar, it can no longer be used to buy physical things because that money belongs to the dead.  The same effect can be achieved by burning Spirit Money or Heaven Notes.

Understand, this is not say that by honoring one’s ancestors you will not experience financial hardships.  Also, do not err in thinking that all you have to do is honor your aakhu and blessings will fall out of the sky.  This is a spiritual practice that will help you to remember that everything that physically exists comes from an invisible spiritual source.  By giving your anxieties, worries and fears to your ancestors, you will find most of your problems will easily resolve themselves when this ritual is done regularly.

Why We Do It? Is Spiritual Living Really Worth It?

30 09 2017

Hetepu (Peace & Blessings) Family.

Family. Let me get real with you for a minute. Sometimes being spiritually minded is a pain in the a**.

You see, when we were in the church most of us taught to do the right thing because it guarantees you a place in heaven and prevents you from going to hell.  But, now that we have gotten older, more spiritually mature.  And, we realize the Divine does not reward or punish us because Nebercher – the Lord of Everything – our Perfect Creator –  is not biased or prejudice but truly objective and does not directly get involved in human affairs. Many of us lose sight as to why we are practicing being spiritual. In other words, we have no real goal or reason to be spiritually anymore.

What makes spiritual living even more gruesome and wish you had taken the blue pill like Cipher in the film the Matrix, is when you understand.  That part of the human spirit is subconscious, which means it controls all of our actions and behaviors that it indiscriminately learned from others – both right and wrong. Indiscriminately means that like a child, our subconscious solves problems by motivating us to do what Easy and what we feel, not necessarily what is Right. Therefore, most of the problems we have in our life begin in our head because we did not learn the unbiased, impersonal, or Right Way to solve our problems.

It all comes to head if you have a nagging wife that does not understand that the quickest way to drive a man away is to nag at him by focusing on petty faults and errors. Instead of being considerate, appreciative and giving praise about the wonderful qualities that both the husband and wife have.

Or, it all comes to a head when a brooding husband does not understand that psychologically speaking he commits adultery.  If he gives attention to destructive and negative thoughts, which can easily result in sharp and harsh remarks, anger, resentment and hostility. Instead of love, appreciation and honor.

Yes, all of this spiritual stuff comes to head when you are at your workplace and you feel that you are being taken advantage of by a jealous and self-entitled coworker who does more complaining than work.

And, the list of problems goes on…

These are all challenging situations that make us question why are we trying to be spiritual and what’s the purpose of it anyway.

Don’t throw in the towel. The reward or the reason we are here practicing spirituality is for spiritual power. This spiritual power comes from the Amun Ra moment, which is why it is important to ignore the feelings that motivate you to do the Easy thing, and instead do what is Right.

No, doing what is Right is not always going to be easy but the more you do it. The stronger you become. This is not pie-in-sky religious babble. This is where the real power comes from, which is the reason “they” do not want you to seriously practice Kemetic spirituality.

It is important to understand that spiritual living is not like religious living. In religious living, when you have a problem or a person annoying the crap out of you. You are taught to pray to have them removed from your life or pray that God can rescue you from this annoying person. But, in spiritual living, you invoke the Power of God so that the annoying individual will change.

Does this mean that you are supposed to take everyone’s crap and just let people walk all over you? The truth is that there is no definite answer to this question. For some people they can be like Dr. Martin L. King Jr. because they have a high tolerance level but for others they have short tolerance level. Before you judge who is right or wrong in regards to their tolerance level, think of how tolerant our Creator is towards us.

In fact, think of how patient, understanding, loving, etc. our Creator is towards us. Do you think that our Perfect Creator doesn’t want to just descend to the planet and smack us and say, “You are GOD! Stop acting like a FOOL!”?

But, why doesn’t our Nebertcher do it? Because how else would we learn.

Ancient African Spirituality is doing what is Right not (necessarily) what is, Easy

29 07 2017

Hetepu (Peace & Blessings) Family.

You know there is a lot of confusion about what ancient African spirituality is about. Some people think that it is all about receiving a cool name listing all of these ancient African spirits.  Others think that it is all about living with no consequences for your actions and behaviors.

I understand and know this because I remember that when I first became interested in ancient African spirituality.   I came across this book where this lady was given instructions to get a particular man by offerings the orisha Oshun a pumpkin with her loved interests name inside of it, along with other objects sacred to the Yoruba orisha of love. The lady was also instructed after her petition was answered to make a weekly offering to Oshun for her continual blessings. After this lady made the offerings, Oshun brought this lady and man together but a few years later. The couple began to have all sorts of problems, until one day her husband became so furious that he grabbed the weekly offerings the lady was making to Oshun and threw them on the floor. When the lady went to the individual who gave her the initial instructions for capturing her loved interest. She was simply told that the same way Oshun brought them together, she could dissolve their relationship as well.

I remember that after reading this story I thought that all ancient African spirituality was all about was you doing a spell and “Voila!” You magically get what you want, so long as you keep the spirits happy. What I learned, the hard way I might add, is that this is not African spirituality. This is what the Hollywood horror films and other misinformation about African traditions want you to believe ancient African spirituality is about.

It is true that if you make an offering to the spirits, that “Voila!” They will give you what want or at least put you in the right place to get what you want. However, after you get what you want, you still have to do the work to keep it. For instance, if you do a love spell for the spirits to get you a man or woman, but you do not know how to keep that man or woman because you have a “stank” attitude, bad manners, you talk “at” your loved one instead of “to” your loved one, etc. Guess what? That person you attracted is going to leave because this is “African influenced magic” not ancient African spirituality. African magic makes up a very small percentage of ancient African spirituality. I would say at least 2 – 5%, while the bulk of ancient African spirituality involves working on yourself.

You see, African spirituality is based upon what I call the Ba (Superconscious or Higher Self) and involves working on yourself because it understands. That most of our problem are self-created, self-induced and self-inflicted problems that stem from our sahu (subconscious). In other words, most of our problems are due to destructive, nasty and negative habits that we most likely learned during our childhood.

This is hard for a lot of people to accept because many do not understand how they got their destructive habits. Well, don’t beat yourself up about them because as I mentioned. You got them subconsciously (sahu), which means you did not deliberately learn these destructive and negative habits. As a child, you indiscriminately imitated them because your Ab (conscious mind/spirit heart) was not developed. When we are all children, we are all very impressionable and believe everything that we see and hear as the gospel truth.  To get real with you, a lot of what we believe is the gospel truth, we learned from our parents – primarily our mothers.

Yes. Many of the things that our mothers taught us is the reason we are having problems because as children. Our mother cannot do wrong, after all she carried us in her womb for nine months, breastfed us and was the first human being to teach us anything. She repeated everything to us and took the time to teach us the first things that make us who we are. To many of us, subconsciously Mom is (the first) God and God cannot do any wrong, so it is hard for many of us to accept that our Mom may have taught us something incorrectly.

But, what we have to understand that if there is something that we are in the habit of doing and it is not working for us. It is not Maa (Truth), which means it is not based upon the Ba (Higher Self) but upon the sahu (lower self) and to be exact, our parents (or Mom’s) opinionated perspective.

So what does all of this mean?

Well, it means that your personality, which was influenced by your Mom (and/or parents) is not who you are, but how you are in the habit of acting and behaving as.

In African spirituality you can’t say, “This is how I am” , “Just accept me for who I am” or “I can’t do x, y and z” because this is not who you are. This is what you are in the habit of acting and behaving as. Who you are is based upon your Ba (Superconscious/Higher Self), which is a clean slate that means you can become anyone and anything.

In other words, you may come from a broken home, which means psychologically speaking. You most likely when you grow up will have relationship problems because this is what you are habitually familiar with due to your subconscious (sahu) programming.  However, you have a Ba (Superconscious or Higher Self), which means that you can change this subconscious program and have a happy relationship.  You simply have to ask your Spirits to help and work through your conditionings.

No, it is not going to be Easy (all the time) but it is the Right thing to do and it is worth it. History is full of examples of individuals who have overcome incredible odds that were stacked up against them to become healthy, wealthy, powerful and influential people. If they can do it, you can too!

Hru and Set – Fighting the Devil Within

Only angry, egotistical and lazy people say, “This is who I am” as an excuse for their destructive, nasty and negative behavior.  Being yourself is great if it works for you but, if keep hitting a brick wall in regards to your health, finances, career, relationships, etc. Yourself, is most likely a subconscious (sahu) habit learned when you were younger.  And, this is the reason in the Kemetic tradition, our subconscious (sahu) habitual self (lower self) or ego-self is symbolized as Set (Typhon in Greek, Set-an or Satan in Judeo-Christian belief ), the spirit of chaos, havoc, laziness, stubborness and destruction.

You will know it is Set influencing your behavior because Set fights against positive change and wants you to continue to blame others for your shortcomings. Set is the lord of excuses and wants you to keep getting the same results using the same old conditional thinking. He will use everything within his power, especially fear to discourage you away from positive change.

The beauty of ancient African spirituality is that it focuses on your Ba (Superconscious or Higher Self), which is symbolized as Osar (Osiris).  Osar wants reminds us that at any time we can hit the reset and start over because our Ba gives us a clean slate like a blackboard that can be erased.

In other words, it does not matter where you come from or what your background is because your past does not define who you are. It only indicates what you have overcome. Therefore, the magic of ancient African spirituality is that it helps us to not focus on what we are, but what we can become.

Why We Need the Devil

7 07 2017

When I was soul searching and trying to find my way.  That is when I met the most remarkable elder I have ever known. As I have mentioned in previous post, I called this elderly Black man Papa.  Papa was from Cuba and he was a babalawo (high priest) in the Lukumi (also known as Santeria) religion, a Spiristist and a member of the Abakua Society. One day I was over at Papa’s house talking and it began to storm. Now, I had read in several books about the Yoruba religion that thunderstorms were a sign that Chango, the orisha of dancing, drumming, fire, thunder and male virility, was riding on horseback and fighting his enemies. Then, out of nowhere, there was a loud and earthshaking thunderclap, which prompted Papa and his wife to yell, “Kabosille Chango!” (A greeting of honor, which I was told means “Hail your majesty Chango!).

This prompted me to ask Papa why the religion in Cuba was practiced different than the way it is practiced in Nigeria. Papa told me that the reason Lukumi was different then how it was practiced in Nigeria was because the Africans did not have to deal with the same sort of circumstances. The Africans, although were “colonized,” still lived in Africa. They still had access to their ancestral lands. Besides possibly ethnic differences they still respected one another, respected each other’s culture and were not prohibited from speaking their language.

Shift to the Americas. Things as you know were dramatically different.

So, in African religions there was no devil, but in the Americas the devil had to be incorporated into the pantheon in order to reflect the situation that the Lukumi people were in. He concluded by telling me that “So when I hear thunder, it is Chango (and sometimes Ogun the orisha of war) fighting the devil, so I yell ‘Kabosile Chango!’”

It was little stories like these that acted as guiding lights to my spirit because they helped me to understand the power of oral traditions but more importantly, African thought.  To me “Kabosile Chango!” sounded more like “Go Get Him Chango!”  Although I was fascinated by Papa’s cultural practice, I could not relate because I was not Cuban. I had listened the stories Papa had told me about his life in Cuba and the lives of Black Cubans in particular, but I had not been raised in an island culture. I was born in good ole’ USA.

Years later, I remembered looking at a book on Kemetic mythology and there happened to be a real bad storm. The storm was so bad, one would have thought that a tornado was going to touchdown. That’s when I remembered what Papa had told me and I remembered that the Kemetic people associated with thunder with Hru (Horus) and storms with Set. Some of the Kemetic legends indicate that like Shango and Ogun, Hru (the netchar of fire and thunder) and Hru Aakhuti (the netchar of warfare) both fought Set, but it was destined that Hru win.

The Kemetic divinities were never portrayed on horseback. This window fragment from the fourth century A.D. on display in the Louvre Museum in Paris, France, reflects the blending of Kemetic and Greco-Roman beliefs. The sculpture symbolizes the Christian idea of Good conquering Evil and is the precursor of the Roman Catholic Saint George.

I remembered, that Hru fought Set because he wanted his birthright and what owed to him. I remind myself that Hru is destined to win, so I imagined Hru doing everything he could to fight the devil. That’s when it dawned on me that Hru symbolized me being victorious over my enemies (spiritual and/or physical). A loud thunderclap sounded, which I interpreted as confirmation that got the point.

“GET HIM HRU!”

As the thunder rolled across the heavens. I thought of all my enemies whom I wanted defeat. That’s when I realized that I probably practice Kemetic spirituality different from how our ancient ancestors along the Nile River did because, I like the Africans taken to Cuba, was a descendant of a people who were forcibly brought to North America and made to make this country my home.

However, unlike the Blacks in Cuba who are to some degree accepted and embraced by their countrymen after they fought for independence from Spain and various other revolutions, African Americans after fighting in every war in this country, contributing greatly on every level to make the United States great, have had to deal with institutionalized racism, white supremacy and white terrorism ever since our arrival.  While majority of our official leaders refuse to talk about issues addressing our community (e.g. unemployment, mass incarceration, police brutality, increasing gang violence, substance abuse, and equal and equitable education),  our unofficial leaders who have somewhat of a bird’s eye view of the problem, refuse to exercise self-control and self-discipline and find themselves tangled in sex and/or drug scandals; and/or these unofficial leaders get into silly debates that have nothing to do with our liberation (e.g. government conspiracy of UFOs, debates on blackness, etc.), thus refusing to see the divisive strategy of Divide and Conquer used a thousand years ago in the Story of Osar.

Unlike other African spiritual traditions, I needed a devil and it was Set.

As the thunder rolls. Today, I yell.

“GET HIM HRU!”

I don’t know how Hru is going to show us how to defeat our enemies but I have full confidence that he will because the concepts and principles of the practice are the same.  This is because our ancestral stories that engage in our spirit, which triggers our “sixth sense.”

Draw the maa aankh. Then write a list of what you want to claim victory over and place in the center.  Next, place a glass encased red candle (of course, away from flammable objects) on top of the list.  Then, light the candle, petition Hru and read Psalms 18 (optional) for Victory in defeating the Set in your life.

The Power of the Kamta (Kamitic Shamanism) Altar

27 09 2015

Hetep (Peace & Blessings) Family

In this post, I decided to share a little and give you a little insight into how I practice Kamta. I credit the inspiration behind this post to my lovely sister and Boricua (Puerto Rican Sister) who had my back and was in my corner.

What happened and why I am giving major thanks to my Sister? Well, as most of you know, my father is preacher and my mother is a strong, loving Christian woman. Now, before anyone goes there, I have already surpassed the basic and superficial things dealing with Christianity, so now I see it for what it is which is metaphorical lore. Like most lore, Christian lore has a host of metaphysical and metaphorical truths.  As urban shamans it is important that we see this connection so that we can change the physical reality as we see fit, by using scriptures from the bible, Tibetan prayer flags, African iconography or anything we can find to influence the spiritual universe.

But, my mother. I love her dearly, but she is determined to save me from “heathen ways.” Like most good mothers who knows their child, when my mother is visiting. She never questions me about my altar when my guard is up and I am expecting her to do so. It is always the sneak attack when my guard is down and then I find myself trying to justify to her that “We don’t worship idols.” For instance, while bringing in groceries, or watching TV that when she pops the question, “Hey, so why do you have that altar thing again?”

“Parents Just Don’t Understand” from Greatest Hits (1998) Before The Willenium (1999) Platinum & Gold Collection (2003) The Very Best of Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince (2006) The Best of DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince (2010)

My response to my Mom’s strategically, carefully time planned questions have been good but they aren’t good enough for her to leave the subject alone. I think because part of her doesn’t want to accept it but the other part, the egotistical Set part (or lower spirit) tells her based upon her conditioning, “This is not Christianity. He’s going to hell.”

Yeah, if it was anyone else who asked me, I would simply say, “Go kick rocks. It’s personal” because it is none of their business and this is not a religion, so there is no proselytizing going on. If it were anyone else the conversation is simple and goes like this:

Them or Agent Smith: “So, Mr. Moore. In one life you are respected professional. In the other you go by the Kamitic alias Rau Khu. One of these lives is a good Christian but the other is a Heathen. Why, Mr. Moore do you say…you have an altar and work with “spirits?”

Hugo Weaving as Agent Smith from the Matrix trilogies.

Me in Pedro Cerrano mode: “I work with my spirits because it helps me.”

Dennis Haysbert as the Cuban defector Pedro Cerrano, in the cult comedy Major League.

Them or Agent Smith: “Mr. Moore. I don’t understand why you need to ‘Work with spirits’ anyway. Why do you need to work with your spirits? Why are they Your spirits? How did you acquire them? Did someone give them to you? You can’t even see them, so how do you know they even exist? How do you know that they are real or not? Are they listening to you? Why can’t you just be a good Christian and let Jesus help you with whatever you need.”

Me in Pedro Cerano mode: “Hahahaha (jajajajaja). Jesus (pronounce Hay-zeus) is good but he no good for bat. Go kick rocks! ”

Cerrano was a power hitter in the movie Major League but he struggled throughout the film to hit curveballs and every pitcher knew it.  For help, he turned to alleged spirit Jobu. When a fellow player suggested that Cerrano try Jesus Christ. Cerrano’s response was that Jesus is good but “he’s no good for bat.”

In other words, our spirits are archetypes and have a purposes. Jesus can’t help me with my woman because he ain’t had one. Damn the conspiracy, he was a 30+year old man with no love interest. He can’t help me with that. Jesus didn’t have any children, so it is pretty hard for him to help people with their children.  Umm, Jesus didn’t have no weight issue, so he can’t help people trying to diet and stay healthy.  The bible never talks about how Jesus dealt with his coworkers while building a house and doing his carpentry work, so he can’t help me deal with my coworkers. Our Spirit understands that Jesus is only good for “Saving Souls.” Meaning you want to go to heaven and deal with the afterlife….you better call on Jesus. For everything else, if you don’t know your spirits, then you are left without a paddle being religious. I am very conscientious about my Spirit (Knowledge of Self).  I know how my Spirit works in my life and I know my Spirit is strong but in order to work it, I need a spiritual paddle. I needs SPECIFICS to feed my Spirit. We need spirits that have accomplished specific tasks, which is why as Cerrano has said “Jesus not good with bat.”

It is difficult to explain holistic thinking to people in a non-holistic culture. Think about how long it took Americans to understand why Native Americans kept saying that the land was sacred. Yeah, 500+ years to change that mentality and at great cost. This is why unless someone is interested in my spiritual tradition. I usually don’t share or waste my time.

But my Moms, that’s a different story.  Your Mom as the Brandon Lee said in The Crow (I paraphrase) “Mother is the word for God on the lips of all children,” so it is hard to go against God. It is one of the hardest spiritual tests to pass is to tell the woman who carried you for nine months, birthed you, taught you to read, write, do math, fed you, taught you how to pray and talk to God, that what she taught you doesn’t work. It is a challenge because no one wants to hurt their Mom’s feelings, at least no one with a sense of humanity.  You always want to let her down gently so she can respect what you do and stop asking questions about your spirituality, when she is not really interested in it.  In other words, you have to find a way to tell your Moms to shut up, mind her damn business TACTFULLY.  Yeah, you have to pass this test because it teaches you how to “catch flies with honey”.

Right, a work in progress.

But, that’s when “IE” (we should call her to protect her identity) comes into the picture.  When IE wanted to see my het aakhu/netcharu (ancestor and guardian spirit house), I did a reading and my shells said “Yes with a blessing.” When IE saw the altar, the scent of the Florida Water and other colognes I had out for my spirits, she said reminded her of her late grandmother in Puerto Rico. A sort of calmness and peace overcame IE as she took in the various icons, images and symbols that adorned my sacred space. After a few minutes she said, “Thank you for allowing me to see this” and exited the room.

Now, I didn’t know why my spirits granted me permission to allow IE to gaze upon the altar, but I soon learned why.  You see, several months later IE and I were visiting my brother’s family, and while she was alone with my sister-in-law, she was asked what her thoughts were about me having an altar. IE told her, “I think what he is doing is right in line with my culture. It is not religious, it is spiritual,” which is what people on the island do all of the time.

PERFECT! Yep! She nailed it! No divide between me and my baby! No demonizing my ancestral ways.

You see, everywhere African people were taken during slavery, they hung on to their culture and today in places like Puerto Rico, Cuba, Brazil, Cosamaloapan, Haiti, Colombia, Jamaica, Dominica, etc.  The African influence is celebrated, loved, respected, cherished and used as a tool of liberation. Only stateside in the United States are we made to be ashamed of our history, heritage, culture, ancestral practices and literally pimped for our cultural ingenuity. Only, in the United States are we divided because of religion.

So, not too long after, I like the unsuspecting swimmer didn’t hear the Jaws music when my mother was visiting me and that’s when she attacked, “So, what does IE think about that altar-thing?”

“Well, Mom,” I said calmly and non-defensively, “To be honest with you, she is okay with it because it is not religious. It is spiritual. It is our culture and it reminded her of her culture and a practice that her grandmother would do.”

The look on Mom’s face….PRICELESS.

Why? Because our cultural practices are SPIRITUAL. It has nothing to do with going to a church, mosque, temple, etc. It is God and our ancestors that unite us and all of these Western religions that have divided us. In other words, spirituality is personal and is concerned with making us better individual by overcoming our egocentric lower spirit or Set.  This is how “they” get us all of the time, so we have to constantly remind ourselves about the true enemy.

   ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I am reminded of this every time I gaze and think about my het (spiritual house or altar).  As I have mentioned before, the Kamta altar draws upon the Afro-Cuban  Espiritismo Cruzado (Crossed Spiritist) tradition but is totally based upon the Kamitic tradition and the remnants of the Kongo philosophy that survived in North America. I draw upon the Espiritismo Cruzado because my godfather, Papa, taught me that the Cruzado altar called a boveda, was the most fluid, multi-purpose altar in the Afro-Diaspora that functions according to how you feel. I was taught that there were only two rules that should be obeyed when it comes to working with the boveda and they are: 1) always keep the altar clean, and 2) never put images of living people on it. Other than that, if you get a hunch, a feeling, a thought to place something or take something off of the het, then follow your intuition. If something doesn’t feel right, then remove it because you are in control and this is your altar. It was through following these rules that led me to find my spirits. As I said, it is spiritual, not religious, which means there is no dogma attached to it.

ancestor altar

Afro-Latin spirit guide altar or boveda

This needs to be clearly understood because similar icons are used and I have seen some people trying their best to put a trademark on our ancestry. No. You do you and let me do me! My godfather was an old, stern Black Cuban man. He was a babalawo (high priest in Santeria) and a member of the Abakwa Society, and in the little time that I knew him, he taught me a lot. And, one of the most important things he taught me about my spirits is that NO ONE CAN DENY YOU what you have experienced. If someone else didn’t experience it, guess what? They didn’t experience it but it doesn’t mean that your experience was not authentic.  Failure to understand the nature of one’s Spirit is how good people are taken advantage of.

This is why I don’t care if people believe what I do or not, because your spirituality is not a religion. It was not created to save your soul. It was created to help you to prosper while on earth. It is spiritual, which means it only needs to make sense to one individual and that is YOU.

Het Aakhu (House for Ancestors and Spirit Guide)

Kamta Ancestral Altar called a Het Aakhu (House for Ancestors and Spirit Guide)

It has to be remembered that our ancestors didn’t lose all of our culture as people claim. What our ancestors lost due to slavery was the philosophy and theology behind our cultural practices. So, the het aakhu (the ancestors/spirit guide altar) represents KAMTA or the spiritual realm where the aakhu dwell.  The cross symbolizes the four directions of universe and hence the presence of the Divine. I have nine clear glasses, symbolizing the nine netcharu who in my mind united with Osar (Asar, Ausar or Osiris) against Set.  I also use this symbolism to signify the various African ethnic groups or nations that were brought to the Americas and forced to work together for a common goal due to slavery. See How to Honor Your Ancestors the Kamitic/Kemetic Shaman Way.

Maa Aankh with Utchat

I put on my het photos of my ancestors but it is also adorned with icons of four important African American spirit guides who I believed helped my family to survive slavery. The first two iconic images are of an elderly black man and woman.  They are known by various names. In Cuba they are called Francisco y Francisca, in Brazil they are called Los Pretos Velhos (The Old Black Ones), in the Mexican tradition they are called Los Negritos (The Little Old Blacks People) and in the Puerto Rican tradition they were called Los Congos, Los Esclavos, La Madama, Negro Jose, etc. African Americans respectfully referred to these elderly men and women as Papa or Uncle and Momma and Auntie because they were believed to be the first Africans (or first descendants of these Africans) that were enslaved. Being the first, they still remember the Old Ways. Many, including myself, believe that these aakhu were Kongo spirits and this is why they are commonly associated with various Espiritismo spirits.

Black Hawk

Black Hawk’s watching all who approach the shrine.

There are also two Amerindian or Native American spirits that adorn my het as well. The first is Black Hawk (shown but his weapons and offerings are not shown) and second is a female spirit who sits across from him. There are numerous stories of how many Native Americans harbored runaway slaves and even adopted early African Americans into their tribes. While it is true that some Native Americans also participated in the slave trade in North America. History reveals that they were not as cruel as white slave owners and allowed their slaves to have various rights and could even marry into the tribe and their offspring were born free. The Native American spirits sit upon the het and continue to fulfill this role as protector spirits, so when I gaze upon my het. It reminds me of those brave souls that fled to the hush harbors in order to practice their spirituality.Black Hawk sits on the edge of the het with a watchful eye protecting my cultural practice.

Npu (Enpu, Anpu or Anubis in Greek) is akin to Ellegua, Exu, Pomba Gira, Papa Legba, Lucero, St. Peter, Brer’ Rabbit, Anansi or Aunt Nancy, Nino de Atocha and the Native American spirits Coyote

I cannot show you my het netcharu (house for my guardian spirits) but above is a het (spirit house or altar) for Npu. Npu also called Anpu, Enpu or Anubis in Greek, some call him Sebek.  He is akin to all of the trickster spirits like Ellegua, Exu, Pomba Gira, Papa Legba, Lucero, St. Peter, Brer’ Rabbit, Anansi or Aunt Nancy, Nino de Atocha and the Native American spirits Coyote. Npu is a crossroad spirit as one of his praise names implies, Apuat means “Opener of the Way“.

According to legend, when Oset (Isis) learned that Set had killed Osar and she went in search of his body to provide him with a proper burial. Her initial search was unsuccessful, until Ra sent Npu to help her. Npu is therefore the finder of lost things. Like most trickster spirits, Npu is a psychopomp meaning he escorts or guides newly deceased souls into the afterlife and participates in the Opening of the Mouth ceremony, which established a soul as an ancestor. Npu therefore crosses in between two worlds, hence the crossroads.  He intercedes on our behalf and is everyone’s personal guardian but he wears the mask of a dog because dogs can be loyal or disloyal depending on how their owner treats them. When they are loyal, they will protect you, guide you and pull you in the safe direction, but when they are disloyal because of your maltreatment, they will lead you into a traps or run off when you need them the most.

In Kamta, the netcharu are not worshipped but they are treated as honored and respected. Since Npu’s like all crossroad spirits are unique to the individual. This Npu shown above is fond of cigars, coffee liquor and candy.

   ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

These are just some of the spirits that I work with and this is the reason I was so happy to have told my Moms that it was SPIRITUAL, and that it was our culture and IE’s culture. It is our culture that unites us, and no Christian would dare say that their ancestors were enslaved in order to become a Christian. When you truly understand history, is when you will have Culture Freedom.

Yes, I finally did it! I finally passed the test without getting upset and without trying to explain why I do what I do to a “Parent that just doesn’t understand” and I owe it all to IE (Thanks Girl).

You see, we in the United States always feel that we have to explain ourselves because mainstream America has demonized our cultural way of life. As a result, we find ourselves really trying to explain our spiritual practices especially to our loved ones because even though we know our spirituality is not a religion. We have been told all of our lives that if we weren’t in the Church we were going to hell and a small part of us still believes this. We only stop believing in this lore and start accepting that heaven and hell are states of mind when we seriously begin honoring and working with our spirits. It only when this happens, we realize that we are truly free and the only thing that enslaves us is what we have been taught as children to believe.
