Why You Should Be Using an Oracle

You know the more and more I walk on this path, the more grateful I am to have chosen to come into this lifetime with knowledge of self. You see, one of the things that used to really irk me when I was younger and in the church is whenever you did not know something and wanted clarity in thinking. People would recite James 1:5 which states, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”  The problem is that whenever these people would tell me this they did not explain how to ask or to seek the wisdom of God.

Maat (the Personification of Maa)

Maat (the Personification of Maa)

Thankfully, one of the concepts that I am so grateful to have come into the ‘know’ about is Maa.  Maa is the Kemetic concept of balance, law, order, justice, and righteousness and it is personified by the goddess Ma’at, but I have come to find that Maa is much more than this – in particular, Cause and Effect.

Prior to this walking this path, when unexpected and unplanned things happened, I was quick to say that it was bad and/or evil because we are taught to categorize everything as either as good or evil. Even after learning about Maa, I would continue to think this way because I did not have a profound understanding of Maa. After I studied Maa and began to really apply the principles of Maa to my life, I began to see a pattern. I began to understand that everything has a Cause and Effect, which means whenever we see the physical result of a thing. It is the actual physical and visible Effect that we are witnessing. Most of the time we never see the spiritual and invisible Cause, and because we do not. We are quick to label the physical effect as bad or evil.

If you understand that Cause and Effect are actually two sides of the same coin this means that both the Cause and Effect exist at the same time simultaneously, which is the basis of Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung’s theory of synchronicity.  Therefore, when you ask a question regarding a physical Effect, the spiritual Cause exists a the same time and the only reason we cannot see it is because we are so focused on the Effect and not the Cause.  But, if you are a God/Goddess you have the ability to see the spiritual and invisible Cause through unique tools called oracles.

Oracles are divination tools and contrary to popular belief, they are not evil fortunetelling devices use to foretell the future.  They are divination tools, which means that like any other tool it can be used for positive and negative reasons. The reason oracles or divination tools get a bad rep in the West is that con artists have taken advantage of the public’s fear and ignorance of the human psyche.  This is why to maintain the spiritual integrity of these divination tools a lot of non-western cultures will explain metaphorically that oracles are divination tools used to communicate between human beings and the gods/goddesses (within your being).  For instance, divination allows you to see the limited physical realm (TASETT) and the unlimited spiritual realm (KAMTA) so that you get a holistic view (symbolized as the Eye of Ra and Eye of Amun Ra on the Maa Aankh shown below.

Maa Aankh with Utchat

Maa Aankh with Utchat (Eye of Ra or Solar Eye symbolizing the visible and physical realm and the Eye of Amun Ra or Lunar Eye symbolizing the invisible and spiritual realm).

But, once you understand that the human being is a microcosm of our Macrocosmic universe, meaning that like the universe we have a visible, physical and habitual part of our being, as well as an invisible, spiritual and intuitive part of our being.  Then, it becomes clear that an oracle is simply a tool used to communicate between the invisible, spiritual and visible, physical parts of our being.   What this means is that anything can be used as an oracle including your dreams, omens, the bible (or any book for that matter) and anything that synchronous events, etc. because an oracle gives you a holistic view of life by allowing you to communicate with the Divine within your being.

So at the beginning of every project, lunar cycle, year, etc. you should be doing an oracle reading to understand how events are going to unfold in your life. Every time there is a problem and you are looking for ways to resolve it, then it would be in your best interest to use an oracle like the Jews and ancient Christians used throughout the bible such as Joseph and Pharaoh and the escape of Jesus and his family to Egypt, etc.). This is the reason divination has always been used by people throughout traditional Africa and Asia.

Unlike in the West where oracles such as the tarot are used to entertain the curious, in China, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, etc. oracles widely used and diviners are greatly respected.

Divination in Asia

Divination is a very important part of spiritual development because for one it reminds us that we are a community and are part of a whole versus an individual who is greater than the group. We need this constant reminder because in this fast-paced society that celebrates the highlights of the individual instead of the group. It is easy to get swept away in the hustle and bustle of life and before long we find ourselves stressed from overworking, worrying about paying bills, etc. while trying to spend time with loved ones. So, divination helps us to get back to the ethereal aspect of life.

What is a Bad Reading

I must admit that in the beginning, I did not use divination tools or oracles because I had a bad experience with them. Actually, on a few separate occasions, I had some poor interpretations given to me. The individuals who were doing the readings always interpreted the oracle reading like fanatics interpreted the bible as the Word of God, so they would cast the oracle and ask “What should I do?” After following their counsel and things went awry.  I later learned that the oracles do not replace your will meaning that it is not supposed to tell you what you are supposed to do. It only informs you of the consequences based upon your decisions.  So, for the record there is really no such thing as a bad reading, there are bad, poor or misinterpretations.

Routine Divination

But, I started using oracles on a regular basis when I saw a documentary one time of some African men hunting for their tribe. According to the documentary, the village had gone for some weeks without eating meat because of a drought. So the hunting party went in search of an animal to feed their entire village. In the video, the men had tracked an animal but the animal’s tracks began to mislead them so they threw some shells to find the animal. After they received their consultation, they continued on their hunt per the oracle and they were able to get enough meat to feed their village. This had a large impact on me and inspired me to use the Kemetic tablets.

So, I strongly encourage you to use an oracle. If you do not know how to use one, there are numerous books on how to do so. In fact, one of the simplest oracles that anyone can use is a pendulum but you are not restricted or limited to that one. You can use whatever resonates with you the best. I just encourage you to use at least one so that you can avoid unexpected circumstances.
